Mt. Bachelor in Spring

It's May. With Mt. Bachelor still open until Memorial Day--but only from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.--my friend, Leah, and I are out on the hill before 9 a.m. After two hours of zero lift lines and fast turns on surprisingly good snow, we hang it up. We both have to head to work. Luckily, I get to indulge in my version of a Bend Double before then.

Most locals define a Bend Double as skiing in the morning followed by a 50-mile bike ride or 18 holes of golf. My Bend Double involves taking my pups to the Rimrock trailhead for an hourlong, off-leash walk down to the river.

Whatever your definition, a Bend Double always starts at the mountain for some fun in the sun.  This photo essay by my friend Joshua Suran should give you an idea of what you're in for. It all starts with the view.
